Play It Again by Laura Dower7/6/2023 Takes one to know one, Aimee muttered bravely under her breath. Morons, some kid with a buzz cut at the next table grunted. She and Madison burst into a goofy fit of laughter. Chocolate milk splattered across the orange lunch table.ĭon’t get-ahh! My new top, Aimee cried. I’m serious, Madison said, flicking her straw at Aimee. Yeah, Maddie, like that’s the part you’d get. Maybe I’ll just be one of those creepy trees that talks, Madison finally told Aimee, trying to change the subject. Being afraid is one thing, but having to admit that to other people is another thing. Just the thought of auditioning made Madison woozier than woozy.Įven worse, Madison couldn’t tell her friends that she didn’t want to audition, especially her best friend, Aimee. She couldn’t face having other classmates with their eyes fixed on her every onstage move. Madison couldn’t get up on stage to sing some lame rendition of Happy Birthday in the key of C. Everyone in the seventh grade was expected to try out for selected scenes and songs from The Wiz.īut Madison didn’t want to. They were planning three separate nights of entertainment-one for each class in the school. Goode’s, twenty years of distinguished service. The Far Hills Junior High administration had decided to organize a special cabaret in honor of the school’s assistant principal, Mrs. Madison Finn shrugged and took a sip of her chocolate milk. What about you, Maddie? What part do you wanna get? I WANT A DANCE SOLO, Aimee Gillespie announced at lunch. For all my drama teachers, especially Sue W.

So, the ton is amused by her, fascinated by her.and she's invited to tons of parties and balls and dinners.Īnd it's in one of those balls where she meets him. My hobby involves examining that evidence and attempting to find a logical explanation for it.” They often think they have evidence of spectral phenomena. “I myself am extremely skeptical on the subject,” Prudence admitted. "Do you believe in ghosts, Miss Merryweather?" She's witty, innocent, intelligent and has an unusual hobby.she is a "ghost investigator"! And the ton has given her the title of Original. Chained by lynne kelly7/5/2023 For one, there's a documentary in the works about "52 Blue," so there's no telling what we'll find out from that or future research. I decided to fictionalize the whale for a couple of reasons. When she learns in her science class about this whale who can't talk to anyone else, she decides she has to find him. I found that character in 6th grade Iris, who's the only deaf student at her school. I woke up in the middle of the night thinking about the 52 Hertz whale, and finally gave up trying to get back to sleep and got up to start writing about the kind of kid who would run away to try to track him down. After a little research I found that it's likely that the whale is a male since they're the singers, and that other whales can probably hear him, but don't understand what he's saying. Thankfully I was online at the right moment, and that I scrolled back to read the description.

Catch me gardner7/5/2023 She contradicts herself when her theories are questioned. Which is probably intentional given the names as initials thing. All the things I didn't like about DD in the beginning, I see in O. She jumps on board because of the sex offender murders. Her name is confusing, so they call her O. Meanwhile, DD and the team are investigating. You heard that right, she forgot an entire sibling. She knows her mom hurt her, even remembers the occasional incident, but very few specifics.Īnd that lack of memory is important. Really, her memory is pretty bad generally - not surprising with repressed memories and trauma. She just doesn't remember much about the time before her aunt took her in. Charlie never heard from her mom again, and she never asked her aunt about her childhood or what happened.Īnd most of her memories have been repressed. What we learn as the story progresses is there was an incident when Charlie was a child and she was removed from the home. What makes it sadder is that Charlie is another tragic past character. She doesn't want DD to stop it, she just wants DD to solve it. Now, as the anniversary approaches, Charlie is sure it's her turn. Charlie tells DD about the murders of her 2 childhood friends exactly one year apart. Then DD finds Charlie hanging out outside the crime scene. Two died while DD was on maternity leave, and her first case now that she's back is another. Well, she's back on the job and hunting a serial killer.

An introduction to a devout life7/5/2023 But we might not be convinced by his reassurance that “God will always provide the leisure and the strength for a life” of devotion and may be uneasy when he reminds us that even as we revel in the flowers of our spiritual life we also need the pruning hook. De Sales believed that all people have a call from God and goes so far as to state that to deny that prayer and devotion have a place in “the soldier’s guardroom, the mechanic’s workshop, the prince’s court, the domestic hearth” is a heresy.ĭe Sales’s insistence that a life of prayer “finds its ideal in the ordinary” will appeal to modern readers. The contemporary reader will find much practical advice here: If you are a young mother, do not fret because you cannot pray like a nun find the method that enhances your vocation as a mother. And the writing is a delight.ĭe Sales’s insistence that a life of prayer “finds its ideal in the ordinary” will appeal to modern readers. Francis de Sales who is seeking advice on how to balance her life in the world with a life of prayer, it has an appealingly personal tone. This book has staying power: It has been in print since 1665, and it is easy to see why. Francis de Sales draws in grape harvesters, cinnamon traders, hunters and tigresses-and makes it work. Upon first reading Introduction to the Devout Life, I was won over by a passage on the guidance of souls in which St.

Storm and fury zayne7/5/2023 Trinity Marrow is eighteen years old, and doing her best to adapt to some very unusual circumstances. Reading the original series will give you a deeper and more complete understanding of the world and its characters, but the author does a great job recapping prior events for those readers who choose to dive right into Storm and Fury. Plus, Trinity, the heroine of Storm and Fury, the first of the Harbinger books, is a human who is losing her vision because of a progressive eye disease, and I knew this was going to be a book I’d love.īefore I begin rhapsodizing about Storm and Fury, I want to assure you that you don’t have to have read the Dark Elements novels in order to enjoy this one. Armentrout was writing a spin-off of her Dark Elements series – which happened to be the first series I ever read featuring gargoyles. I’m always on the lookout for new urban fantasy series featuring unusual creatures, so I was over the moon to learn that Jennifer L.
